Big Ten Net Names Trio for College Basketball Coverage

Oct 24, 2007  •  Post A Comment

The Big Ten Network named three former conference hoops figures as its announcing team for the college basketball season.
Former Purdue coach Gene Keady, two-time Big Ten player of the year Jimmy Jackson and former Northwestern star Tim Doyle will join host Dave Revsine in the studio during the network’s coverage of basketball double-headers.
The trio also will serve as analysts for some game broadcasts and will appear regularly on “Big Ten Tonight.”
“Given their individual experiences, we think each member of this team can provide unique insight and perspective,” said executive producer Leon Schweir. “We have a coach who spent 25 years in the Big Ten, a player who in his conference career and for 14 years afterwards competed against some of the best players in the world and someone who played in the Big Ten as recently as last year. We’re excited to have three individuals with such outstanding Big Ten basketball credentials.”

  1. The Big Ten Network is creating a huge amount of bad will with the failure to reach an agreement with Comcast or Verizon to carry the network.
I have watched every available IU basketball game for over 25 years. I think that maybe only two or three were not available in Fort Wayne, IN.
Now it looks like I will miss both exhibitions and the first five games unless I want to go sit in a bar or impose on someone that has Dish or Direct.
There are thousands of us who are deeply dissappointed.
The free market and advertising revenue worked for years and now the fans are being denied the opportunity to watch IU basketball.
Shame on you. Shame on Comcast. Greed, greed greed and not a true fan at the “Big Ten Network”

  4. Bad will or not Time warner is making me switch to Direct TV.

  5. I think the hole thing stinks, starting with the big ten right up to comcast. none of you care about the fans.all you care about is the almighty dollar. Asfar as i’m concerned you can stick it where the sun don’t shine.

  6. Of course, Comcast is completely against placing the Big Ten Network on their expanded basic package, but they have no problem including their own Comcast SportsNet on their expanded basic package. And now, Comcast is trying to start another sports channel in Oregon to carry the Oregon Ducks and Portland Trailblazers which they will include on their expanded basic plan. The worst part is that they want to increase subscriber charges $2 for their Oregon channel, but they’re griping about a $1.10 increase for the Big Ten Network. They are greedy hypocrites, and it is no wonder why people are making the switch to satellite. I switched to Direct TV before the football season started, and have been enjoying all the Big Ten games (including the App. State/Michigan game). I don’t know how other cable companies are carrying the Big Ten Network, but I like the fact that Direct TV (and I believe Dish Network) offers the Big Ten Network on multiple channels as to avoid having to select one game to show. I follow Michigan State and Indiana, but live in Wisconsin. It’s nice that I can still catch the Hoosiers while the Badgers are playing on a different Big Ten Network channel. And it goes beyond the Big Ten Network, my expanded basic package on Direct TV offers channels Comcast could only dream of carrying. So long cable…say “hello” to the 8-track and beta on your way out the door…

  7. I switched to Direct TV today. I tried to hold out for the cable company, but it was not to be. So long cable…

  8. There is no reason to impose on friends or to go to a bar–simply switch from cable.

  9. I AGREE WITH BRENT A. I WAITED IT OUT WITH COMCAST AS LONG AS I COULD BUT I WANT TO SEE ALL OF THE I.U. GAMES. THIS IS THE BEST TEAM THE HOOSIERS HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. I ALSO THINK WE MIGHT HAVE A SHOT AT WINNING THE BIG TEN CHALLENGE THIS SEASON. I WON`T GO BACK TO CABLE NOW THAT I`VE SWITCHED TO DIRECTV!

  10. Comcast claiming the need to increase rates is a load of BS, every other cable company that added Big Ten did not increase rates. In fact Comcast is increasing their rates without even adding the channel, and they’re spending a lot of money on an anti-BTN advertising campaign, more money than they would be paying if they actually carried the channel from the start.

  11. I received this email from Verizon this week. However, the rep didn’t indicate a specific date for when the BTN will be available on FIOs. I am guessing it’s related to their big upgrade and addition of 150 HD channels in 2008.

We plan to add Big Ten Network in 2008, and you’ll get it with the same great picture quality you’ve come to expect from Verizon FiOS TV. Meanwhile, you’ll be able to watch some Big Ten men’s basketball games on ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS, which we carry in both high-def and standard-def. Check out this schedule:
