“The Martha Stewart Show” is making a quartet, as distributor NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has cleared the strip for its fourth season in more than 60 % of the country.
“’The Martha Stewart Show’ continues to be one of the most recognizable syndicated franchises in daytime television,” said Barry Wallach, president of NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. “Martha’s ‘how-to’ approach to everything from cooking to crafts to entertaining continues to resonate with daytime audiences and we look forward to the continued success of this franchise.”
The series has been renewed in 17 of the top 20 markets in a one-year deal, including the NBC Owned and Operated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, Miami and San Diego for the 2008-2009 season. Stations from the Fox, Belo, Fisher, Scripps, Hearst, Allbritton, and Clear Channel have also picked up the show.
“This early renewal is a wonderful endorsement from our station partners,” said Sheraton Kalouria, president of broadcasting, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. “We have a passionate and loyal audience that continues to demand what only Martha Stewart can deliver, and we are delighted to move forward with another season sure to entertain and inform daytime television viewers.”
Last season, the series averaged a 1.3 national rating.
The renewal of “Martha,” combined with recent pickups by the NBC-owned stations of “Deal or No Deal” and “Bonnie Hunt,” has now locked down most of the time periods for the group’s 2008 season. With the addition of the two shows, the future of series such as “iVillage” continues to dim in order to make space for the strips.
