Writers, Producers Back at the Table
For the first time in four weeks, representatives of both the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers and Writers Guild of America met back at the bargaining table Monday at an undisclosed Los Angeles hotel, Daily Variety reports.
Both sides, adhering to a media blackout, did not release statements regarding the proceedings, which has delighted media insiders who are pleased to see the two at least talking, the newspaper says.
Monday’s talks are the first of three days of discussions planned, the paper reports.
‘Letterman’ Reruns Fall to Fresh ‘Nightline’ Episodes
Reruns of “Late Show With David Letterman” were bested by premiere episodes of “Nightline,” with the news program averaging 3.57 million 25- to 54-year-olds in the week of Nov. 12 versus Letterman’s 3.43 million draw, Broadcasting & Cable reports.
“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” also in repeats, still led the nighttime pack, averaging 3.93 million viewers, the newspaper reports.
Monday’s WGA/AMPTP Talks Productive
An insider reported to Deadline Hollywood Daily that Monday’s tight-lipped writers-producers meeting was productive, with both sides getting up to speed on what specific topics need to be tackled for the next bargaining meeting, the blog reports.
Insider Believes WGA Deal Is Close to Complete
A person close to the source told Deadline Hollywood Daily that a deal is near between the two sides of the Writers Guild of America dispute, the blog reports.
The blog posted the story before Monday’s talks, but said the insider believed the groundwork was practically laid, and that the strike could be over before Christmas.
