NBC’s Gala Globes Telecast Canceled

The pomp and circumstance of the 65th annual Golden Globes has been scaled back dramatically, with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announcing today the cancellation of the NBC telecast of the awards due to the writers strike.
Instead, the HFPA will hold an hourlong press conference at 6 p.m. PST on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. The press conference, which will be covered by NBC News, will reveal the winners in the Globe’s 25 film and television categories.
“We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007’s outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television,” said Jorge Camara, Hollywood Foreign Press Association president.
“We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year’s Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled.”
Produced by Dick Clark Productions, the Golden Globes telecast was being threatened with a picket from striking writers and a boycott by Screen Actors Guild members.

  1. That’s it! Consider the SAG awards officially boycotted. This is Bullshit! WGA can rot in hell for this! I am fed up with them.

  2. Please direct your anger at the AMPTP and NBC, who were not negotiating in good faith and did not offer a good deal to the writers. In fact, they aren’t even offering anything at this point because they are refusing to negotiate with the writers.
Writers want to write. They want audiences to enjoy their movies and TV shows, but they are unable to do it because the studios have shut them out.

  3. Good! I hope AMPTP wakes up and realizes they need to cut a decent deal with the WGA.

  4. No – John…
The fault here lies completely within the incompetent leadership of the WGA. Dick Clark was ready to enter into an interim agreement similar to the one completed with WWP and now UA. Dick Clark is not part of the AMPTP. Seems the WGA felt it was more important to stick it to NBC than to negotiate in good faith with Dick Clark.
The WGA has dug in its heals, gotten way over its head. This will not end well for the writers or the poor folks who are the collateral damage in this mess.

  5. John, I tried to direct my anger at the AMPTP, but it later became apparent that while the AMPTP is not negotiating in good faith, that did not make the WGA any less of a bunch of spoiled assholes. They have literally taken the entire industry hostage. All of Hollywood has a gun pointed to it’s head by the WGA, and yet people like you still continue to support them. What will they have to do to get the wool pulled off your eyes and see that the WGA are nothing more than a bunch of whiney, greedy hostage takers.

  6. Those writers did not only push my last nerve, they fucking stomped on it. Repeatedly. I am sick of the WGA, and I am sick of all their supporters.

  7. Who cares? I am so sick of all of these self-congratulatory Hollywood awards shows- give me a repeat of Law and Order any day.Or better yet- how about a whole night of Dateline really giving an in depth profile of who is RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT?

  8. Shut up Kate! Nobody cares what you think! If you don’t care about the award shows, then just butt the hell out!

  9. Neat blog layout! Very easy on the eyes.. i like the colors you picked out

  10. I really like the colors here on your blog. did you design this yourself or did you outsource it to a professional?
