Burke Magnus has been promoted to senior VP of college sports programming at ESPN, following the retirement of the department’s executive VP, Chuck Gerber.
Mr. Magnus, who was most recently vice president of ESPNU, joined ESPN as a programming associate in 1995 and has been promoted multiple times in the department.
Before joining ESPN in 1993, Mr. Gerber developed and produced programming for Casablanca IV and G2 Entertainment; he also was a programming VP for NBC. His retirement in April will cap 40 years in the television industry.
“Chuck Gerber is a trusted leader and dedicated friend. We’ve all learned from him and we all wish him the best in his next chapter of life,” ESPN Executive VP John Wildhack said of the personnel changes.
“Burke is a proven executive who is highly respected in the college sports community. His past success managing college basketball and ESPNU will serve him well in this critical new role,” Mr. Wildhack added.
