Ross Out as ‘Early Show’ Executive Producer

Shelley Ross’ tenure as executive producer of “The Early Show” on CBS ended Thursday. She was hired some six months ago to run the morning news show that has run a distant third to its competitors throughout several decades and many titles, anchor teams and executive producers.
“CBS Evening News” executive producer Rick Kaplan will take interim control of “The Early Show.”
The change had been brewing since staff backlash against Ms. Ross boiled over and into gossip columns in recent days.
The brief announcement of the news said Mr. Kaplan “has built an exceptionally strong senior team there, and the broadcast will be in very capable hands until he returns full-time to ‘The Evening News.’”
Ms. Ross’ otherwise successful five-year run as executive producer of ABC’s “Good Morning America” ended in 2004 after a similar staff revolt by staffers and anchors.

  1. Shelley Ross had made so many enemies all across the
industry. She’s in her mid fifties and has
earned a reputation for being abusive and vindictive throughout her life. For some unknown reason, her
behavior has been long tolerated. CBS knew what they were getting. I guess it’s one thing to hear it second hand but another thing to have under your own roof. I wish CBS well on their next Exec Producer.
Sounds like the staff deserves someone who is
ethical and congenial regardless of the ratings.
