Planet Green is adding more celebrity power to its lineup.
The new eco-lifestyle channel launching June 4 announced additional programming plans as part of parent Discovery Communications’ upfront presentation to ad buyers Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Adrian Grenier, Tom Bergeron, Emeril Lagasse, Maria Menounos, Tom Brokaw, Annabelle Gurwitch, Chris (Ludacris) Bridges, Tommy Lee, Bill Nye and Tom Green all will be appearing in series or specials on the new channel, which will have more than 250 hours of original programming and reach 50 million homes.
One new show is the daily series “G Word,” hosted by MTV News correspondent SuChin Pak and CBS News science and technology correspondent Daniel Sieberg. They will focus on finding the latest information on the environmental movement to bring viewers solutions they can use.
Discovery will give viewers a sneak peak of Planet Green programming through cable operators’ video-on-demand services and the network’s Web site, Planet Green.com.
Other Discovery networks also announced programming plans.
TLC, concentrating on what it calls “feel-good reality,” said it is adding game show “Your Place or Mine”; relationship series “Single Moms”; “Ashley Paige,” which follows the swimsuit designer; and “The Singing Office,” hosted by Melanie Brown and Joey Fatone, which searches for talent inside companies.
Animal Planet will be launching “Dark Days in Monkey City” during the winter. The show combines live-action and animation to tell the story of a deserted city in Sri Lanka where monkeys rule the streets. Other shows include “”Dave Salmoni: A Year With Lions,” “Dogs! Cats!” and “Jockeys.”
Among Science Channel’s new shows are the series “Danger Man,” in which the unnamed host performs jaw-dropping stunts performed by daredevils, stuntmen and showmen, explaining how they’re scientifically possible, and a special called “Stephen Hawking’s Theory of Everything.”
Investigation Discovery is adding “Solved,” looking at how controversial and complex cases were closed, and “Navy Justice: The Real NCIS.”
