A random sampling of upcoming programming proves music lovers have a lot of choice on TV.

CBS is expanding on its Feb. 8 Grammy Awards telecast with Wednesday’s “The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!—Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night.” The special will include the announcement of Grammy nominations in at least six categories and will feature performances by past winners at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

CBS’ Dec. 30 broadcast of the 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors promises to be a highly musical show this year, because half of the honorees are singers: Barbra Streisand, George Jones and the Who’s Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. Beyonce will be part of the tribute to Ms. Streisand.

Sundance Channel launches “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…” on Wednesday. Slated to appear with Mr. Costello in the 13 one-hour episodes, combining interviews, behind-the-scenes talk and performances, are Elton John, Tony Bennett and Smokey Robinson.

Music Choice is making available “Most Demanded—The Music Choice Video-on-Demand Awards” during December. Damon Williams, Music Choice VP of programming and production, said, “A lot of our target demographic is home during the holidays. It’s one of the reasons why we strategically place our award show, ‘Most Demanded,’ in December.”
Also, “We are starting to work closely with our MSOs to premiere certain music videos in HD in the VOD platform.”

For 2009, the Disney Channel is putting the chart-topping Jonas Brothers into a new series called “Jonas,” in which they play the rock-star “Lucas” brothers.

PBS, long a staple of a wide variety of music programming, has scheduled “Sam Cooke: Crossing Over” to air in 2009. “Public television programmers, and PBS audiences, seem to have a long history of appreciation for musical programming,” said John Antonelli of Pictograph Productions, who produced and directed the documentary.
