‘Burn Notice’ Heats Up, Bests ‘ER’ Rerun

Jan 30, 2009  •  Post A Comment

USA Network’s “Burn Notice” grew its ratings from last week, so much so that it drew more viewers than a rerun of “ER” on big brother broadcast network NBC Thursday night.
USA officials weren’t certain whether this was the first time a USA show beat NBC, the once-dominant broadcaster, in prime time, but it appeared unlikely it ever happened on a Thursday night at 10 p.m., long home to many of NBC’s strongest series.
“Burn Notice” registered its highest ever audience among adults 18 to 49, registering a 2.0 rating. It was up 6% from last week, when the show returned with new episodes. In total viewers it rose 5% to 5.38 million viewers, compared with 4.53 million for “ER” (1.7 in 18-49).
The show was the top-rated cable show of the night in all demographics. It also beat all broadcasters in men 18 to 34 and was second behind CBS among men 18-49 and men 25-54.
Ratings for A&E’s new original series “The Beast” held steady at a 0.6 among adults 18 to 49, but total viewers dropped to 1.35 million from 1.55 million a week ago.

  3. Burn Notice is a cool show, reminds me of Magnuim P.I., and the A-Team rolled into a cooler show, has a FBI guy that can’t remeber his past trying to put it back together while working case as a PI and he can’t trust anyone, he hangs w/ his ex girlfriend, a CIA informant/best friend/turning in just enouth info on him to get paid off but not enough to get him caught(plus he’s played by Bruce Campbell)
It is truely unbelievable that USA has so many cool well made dramas (MONK, Burn Notice, Psych, Law and Order CI)and NBC scratches the bottom barrel for theirs

  4. F.Y.I “BURN NOTICE” is about a CIA agent (JEFF DONAVON, who is the star of the show), not an FBI agent ( bruce campbell the co star), that doesn’t remember his past. The FBI agent is the best friend informant. but nice try!

  5. Burn Notice is a fantastic show, if you aren’t watching you’re really missing out on a very entertaining series.

  6. Michael, the spy who got burned, remembers his past. He is trying to figure out why the government fired him. Its way cool show. Lot’s of fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously and very well acted.

  7. Pete – While I agree that the USA Network has a number of terrific shows, you may want to acknowledge that USA is OWNED by NBC before you start wondering why the latter is “scraping the bottom of the barrel” for programming.

  8. Burn Notice is the best show to come along since The Shield. Great cast. Great concept. Keep it up USA network!

  9. Micheal Weston and suppourting cast have a chemistry that really works.

  10. He can remember his past. He was a CIA agent. He was burned and is trying to get back in.

  11. Magnum PI and A-Team, Chips, Dukes of Hazzard and Miami Vice. All pretty laughable now which is no doubt the way this show will go. Good luck with your careers after show is through.

  13. I want to the actual night. However I wish to stay up as well as listen to Mumford & Son’s. Choosing the second.

  14. My Christian teachings inform me Jesus needs us to turn another cheek. Thankfully we’ve been a nation that sets apart the church and state; it is time we as People today in america just say to Ahmadinejad to go to hell. For the UN, I’d personally favour my tax revenue sent on The Bridge to No Where. At any rate we might have something to show for it.

  23. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  24. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  50. Count me as another particular person surpr ised that you did notinclude pepsi to the ??worst??? l ist and even acknowledge their redesign.Other precise comments. The new Pfizer logo looks sloppy and careless to me. The blue clearspace all-around the wordmark is uneven. I just like the notion, but the execution is bad. The old a person is tighter.I do notunderstand what you like improved regarding the new Guitar Hero logo. The unfavorable space between the letters tends to make it almost unachievable to study for me.As for El Banco Deuno, I do notget it in the least. The line breaks seem totally jarring to me and remind me of a logo I did for my s ister is line of crafts when I was about 15 (it was the phrase pollywogs??? on two lines, which has a hyphen?- ugh). Finally, I would appreciate to view your l ist of Identities which are in desperate require of a redesign. My #1 pick would be Verizon.
