Sunday night’s telecast of Super Bowl XLIII, in which the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals, was watched by 95.4 million viewers, ranking as the second most-watched Super Bowl ever.
Last night’s game also ranks as the third most-watched telecast of all time based on average viewers (first is the “M*A*S*H” series finale with 106 million viewers, followed by last year’s Super Bowl XLII with 97.5 million viewers).
Official national household ratings information for the game will be available Tuesday morning.
Following the Super Bowl, a special episode of “The Office” from 10:40-11:40 p.m. EST scored a 10.6 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 22 million viewers overall, according to time-zone-adjusted Nielsen Media Research data. The episode set series highs, doubling the show’s previous highs in the demo (5.1) and viewers (11.2 million).
Sunday’s “Office” ranks as the No. 3 entertainment telecast of the season, behind only last month’s Tuesday and Wednesday night season premieres of “American Idol.”
