VH1 Greenlights 7 New Series

VH1 is planning a third night of original programming and has given a green light to seven new series to fill its pipeline.

Beginning late summer, the network plans to put original shows on Thursday night, a big night for advertisers, particularly movie studios.

On Monday nights when VH1 airs original shows, the network ranks No. 4 in adults 18-49 among ad-supported cable networks. On its other original night, Sunday, it ranks fifth.

Among the new shows are “Click,” a reality show searching for the network great fashion photographer, first reported in TelevisionWeek June 4.

The other new VH1 shows are:

  • “The Salt ‘N’ Pepa Show,” which follows the music group a it tries to reunite.

  • “America’s Most Smartest Model,” a contest of beauty and intelligence with a $100,000 prize. Ben Stein is a co-host.

  • “Danny Bonaduce’s Child Star,” in which the former child star seeks a talented kid with parent equipped to navigate Hollywood.

  • “Free Radio,” an improvised comedy that looks behind the sense of a fictional L.A. talk station.

  • “Lords of the Revolution,” profiles non-conformist heroes from the 60s and 70s who influenced popular culture.

  • “Old Skool with Terry and Gita,” with former movie star Terry Moore, 77, and former model Gita Hall, 72, investigate today’s hippest youth-oriented scenes.
