ESPN Adds Platforms for X Games

ESPN has locked down coverage for the upcoming X Games 13 in more platforms than ever before.

Coverage on ESPN, ESPN 2 and ABC will offer 14.5 hours of X Games coverage.

Meanwhile, digital platforms EXPN.com and ESPN360.com will offer more than 40 hours of coverage, with further coverage on ESPN’s mobile platforms (including ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN MVP), Apple’s iTunes Store and via Dish Network’s interactive TV application on DishHOME channel 100.

“Digital media and the X Games are a natural combination,” said Rick Alessandri, managing director, X Games Franchise. “Like the athletes, the fans of X Games are active and on the go. These media platforms are, in many ways, as important to them as traditional television coverage.”

New this year is a deal between ESPN and MediaFLO USA, who will join to offer eight hours of live X Games coverage daily on EXPN, a special mobile TV channel dedicated solely to the X Games and a first on MediaFLO USA’s FLO TV mobile TV service. Audiences will be able to see everything from practices and qualifying events to finals and highlights. FLO TV is currently available through Verizon Wireless as VCast Mobile TV.

In another collaboration, ESPN, Dish Network and X Games will offer “ESPN Interactive X Games.” The interactive channel will allow fans to watch six X Games channels on one screen, with options that include channels for X Games 13, the Best of X and four sport-dedicated channels—skateboards, BMX, surfing and engines.
X Games 13 will be held Aug. 2-5 in Los Angeles.
