Decor: Themed “A Celebration of Excellence Toasting the Past, Present and Future,” the Academy’s post-awards gala featured a classic Hollywood black-and-white art deco design by Keith Greco Decor.
Food and drink: Patina chef Joachim Splichal’s menu kicked off with a tower of mango and Dungeness crab with tomato, cucumber and avocado served in a sweet ginger-soy reduction. It was followed by an entree of filet mignon and red wine-braised short rib with potatoes fondant and asparagus. For dessert, there were a milk chocolate mousse with Champagne gelee, berries in Dove dark chocolate cups and cherry vanilla cake. Dove also provided boxes of chocolates as individual table favors. Beaulieu Vineyard supplied the wine and Laurent-Perrier the champagne. Voss “designer water” was on the tables and bars flowing with Grey Goose vodka were never far away. The evening was produced by Sequoia Productions and Governors Ball Committee Chair Geriann McIntosh.
Highlights: Tony Bennett, natch. Plus celebrities galore, among them Al and Tipper Gore, Tom Selleck, Marcia Cross, Leslie Caron, Debra Messing, Stephen Colbert and Jeremy Piven with the “Entourage” gang.
Lowlight: Locating the shuttle buses back to the valet parking lot afterward.
