Continuing to expand its programming presence in syndication, Debmar-Mercury has snared worldwide TV rights to “Trivial Pursuit: America Plays.” The company will develop the series as a first-run game show with a launch targeting fall 2008.
“'Trivial Pursuit' represents an incredible opportunity to leverage a brand that is extremely popular with multiple generations and combine it with interactive elements to bring a new and exciting concept to the game show genre,” said Mort Marcus, co-president of Debmar-Mercury.
The company is partnering with Wheeler-Sussman Productions to produce the half-hour strip. The company developed the game’s format, creating unique interactive elements to allow viewers to be a part of the game from home while driving local station Web site participation.
“We are excited to be working with Hasbro and look forward to partnering on an aggressive marketing plan in support of the 'Trivial Pursuit: America Plays’ launch,” said Ira Bernstein, co-president of Debmar-Mercury.
The distributor will make format rights available for all territories.
In addition to “Trivial Pursuit,” Debmar-Mercury recently partnered with television personality and talk show host Tom Green to make the online-only talk show “Tom Green Live!” available for simulcast on broadcast television. The series, produced out of Mr. Green’s living room, will feature one-on-one interviews with celebrities.
