Advertisers Show Support for Crackle

Sony-owned online video site Crackle said it has landed Pepsi, Honda, Epson, Sony Electronics, Vodafone and other major brands as advertisers on its site, following the July relaunch of the service.

The addition of this first set of brand advertisers to the site is a confirmation of Crackle’s new programming strategy, the company said.

In July, the site jettisoned user-generated content in favor of professionally produced content because user-generated material was too difficult to monetize with ads, Crackle said.

Pepsi is sponsoring the Minisode Network channel on Crackle, with branding on the home page as well as custom videos ads and rich media banners. Honda Fit will be the lead sponsor for the site’s Shorts Channel, which airs cutting-edge short films. Honda Fit will be integrated throughout that channel and on the playlists for the channel. Sony Electronics will run branded “watermarks” on certain Crackle high-definition content.
