‘Today’ Takes Show on the Road

The “Today” show anchors and principals, all four hours’ worth of them, are taking a short but extreme winter break.

Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker, Ann Curry, Natalie Morales and Hoda Kotb are all going to Sugarbush Resort in Warrant, Vt., on Thursday, Feb. 20. On Friday, Feb. 21, they’ll all be at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, where the activities will include a concert by Enrique Iglesias.

The announcement Wednesday of the February sweeps excursions said it is “the first time ever the entire ‘Today’ anchor team has broadcast live from remote locations.”

For the “Ends of the Earth” enviro-travel extravaganza in November, Mr. Lauer broadcast live from the North Pole, Mr. Roker was live from the Equator and Ms. Curry was in Antarctica, while Ms. Vieira, Ms. Morales and Ms. Kotb held down the fort at NBC News headquarters in New York.

This reminds me of the good old days of live TV, when the Florida tourism or citrus agencies would pay to have shows like "I've Got A Secret" produced in, say, Cypress Gardens, or, going just a little farther back, Steve Allen and the "Tonight" gang staging a mock invasion of South Beach.

I, and my 2 children have never been past North Dakota and we went to a family reunion in the summer of '07 at the Sugarbush Inn Reaort. It was the most amazing time of our lives. It was my fathers side and I could never be more grateful. My parents married twice and divorced before I was 9. (My mom likes to think she is a slow learner). ANYWAY, today, 2/21/08, I couldn't peel my 12 year daughter's eye away from the tv! I don't see my dad often, and Sugarbush is very memorable to me. I am very well educated, 37, happily married, but enjoy/miss my family reunions. I have never been to the East Coast in my life, and I will never EVER forget. Thank you for doing the Sugar Bush documentary for me. I ran miles around the place in July, I was training for the Portland Marathon, lonely me, from Oregon.
Thanks again, I couldn't peel my kids away from the TV this morning.

PS...My 6 year old saw the statue of the skier on the bench and remembers sitting with him and doing the cross line, with the ropes, this summer. THANK YOU!
