Turner Sports said it signed announcer Marv Albert to a new contract running through the 2015-16 NBA season.
Mr. Albert will continue to work one of TNT’s Thursday night NBA games, the All-Star Game and Conference Finals playoff contests.
He also will announce games on NBA TV beginning in the 2008-09 season as part of Turner’s new partnership with the NBA to run the league’s cable channel.
"Marv's is a legendary voice in sports broadcasting and synonymous with NBA basketball, and we're very pleased to continue our relationship with him," said David Levy, president, Turner Sports & Turner Broadcasting Sales.

I'm glad that Marv will stay on, I love his voice! Wise choice TNT, Congratulations Marv!

TNT should also hire dick vitale and albert and dick should broadcast together. That would make a great broadcast.

remember when he bit that lady's back? that's what i'll always remember marv for. he may have a good voice, but he likes to use his mouth for more cynical purposes...

Didn't Marv used to dress in womens clothing or something?

Yesssss and it counts!

I Hope he still calls the local NETS games. I love when he tears Mark Jackson down for all the stupid $hit he says. They should pit Walt "Clyde" Frazier vs. Marc Jackson as a commentator showdown at the All-Star Game. If anyone has ever heard Frazier on the local MSG Knicks broadcasts, he has a larger vocabulary than all of the NBA combined! He uses 4-5 syllables words every minute to describe each play!
"The tenacity of Crawford, as he makes an exquisite motion towards the interior... His call for a foul is plausible, and he is pleading his case vehemently..."
Phil Jackson was asked on what Frazier was like to play with on an NBA team, and he said
"One thing about Clyde, I have never seen him without a dictionary!"
Hillarious. Marv is all-time best commentator though.
And I believe that Marv Albert was caught ordering a tranny escort I believe, unless it really was HIM who did the cross-dressing.

rather than sign this only so so so announcer, why not give Cheryl Miller real broadcast duties insteas of those stupid side lines?? She KNOWS the game and is so articulate.
Posted by Kennedy | February 6, 2008 11:11 AM
somebody needs to take $hit talkin charles barkley off. that dumby dont know anything. he must not watch A.I play cuz A.I does everything. CHARLES BARKLEY IS A CHUMP!!!
Posted by jared washington | February 6, 2008 11:26 AM
THats the best that Marvelous Marv Is signed through 2016,because he is the best. TNT should sign Mark Jackson to a deal because theres nothing better than watching Marv and Mark work there magic, just watch them on The YES Network. TNT really needs to look into signing Mark Jackson for Thursday Nights, thats if Mark Jackson approves it. Mark and Marv are the best 1,2,punch. I also wanted to say I enjoy watching the Legend/Knick Killer, The Great Reggie Miller

I LOVE Marv...
He's the BEST at what he does...
Posted by Tami | February 6, 2008 11:40 AM
Marv is amazing, maybe the best ever, but Kevin Harlan is up there too. Those two are easily the best voices in all of sports
Posted by T Goody | February 6, 2008 11:43 AM
I love it. He is the best! I only wish it was a lifetime contract! Sign Doug Collins also.
Posted by Fortyouncers | February 6, 2008 12:02 PM
Don't forget about Ian Eagle. He's also a NETS commentator who is funny as hell and trys to play it off like he's being serious. Him and Mark jackson make a nice combo too.
Oh and by the way, Mark Jackson is signed to ESPN i think, as well as ABC.
Posted by NETS#1Fan | February 6, 2008 12:21 PM
one line for all the marv fans!
"Yes, and it counts!!"
Posted by Mr. Williams | February 6, 2008 12:24 PM
marv is fine, i think ian eagle is better though. the top announcing teams are:
1. nets
2. warriors & lakers in a tie
the worst announcers are probably philadelphia & minnesota = boring!!

I like Marv. His voice is cool. Walton is terrible. Fire him.
Posted by JasonW | February 6, 2008 12:59 PM
I don't care who they put on as long as it isn't Bill Walton stupid ass!
Posted by Mike Thomas | February 6, 2008 1:07 PM
I hate Marv biased Albert. He is so anti Spurs whenever they play... I am going to hate hearing him for the next 7 years.....
Posted by San Antonio Spurs Fan | February 6, 2008 1:09 PM
As Nets fan I listen to Marv alot. Ian Eagle and Mark Jackson are a much better team (they like each other and pay attention to what's happening on the court). Wish YES would free Marv's schedule up permanently so he can do national gigs full-time.
Posted by Cyn | February 6, 2008 1:12 PM
This is great! I love marv albert. Kevin Harlen is good to i wonder what it would be like if both of them were together?
Posted by Daniel | February 6, 2008 1:29 PM
One of my favorite calls of all time: (Game 4 WCF, LAL vs. SAC)
"Horry!...for the WIN!!..... YES!!!!!!"
As the Lakers regained momentum against the Queens. God, I'm glad he was the one making the call for NBC at that time... Congrats to Marv.
Posted by SoCalPauly | February 6, 2008 1:30 PM
LOL! That's really funny that he's remembered as a cross-dresser and a back biter. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline.
Posted by Negro Jones | February 6, 2008 1:34 PM
As long as TNT hasn't inked a long term deal with Bill Walton, I can rest assure that my kids can wake up to a better tommorow.

Marv is the "man" when it comes to announcing a basketball game. However, with the ladies, I don't think so.
Posted by rick | February 6, 2008 2:54 PM
Aman on Bill Walton the guys an embicile, Are those his real teeth. I'd like to hear him diss his son like he does everyone else who under achieves.
Posted by lakerman1 | February 6, 2008 3:29 PM
Marv earned his stripes. "From down town! Jordan, for three... YESS!!" I'm consistently thankful that Tom Tolbert is bye-bye. Now if they can ditch that bobble headed moron Bill Walton, the IQ level of basketball announcing might go up by 40 or 50 points.
Posted by Earl Rodrigo | February 6, 2008 3:36 PM
Does he still wear panties on his head?
Posted by Jeff | February 6, 2008 4:43 PM
Dick vitale would not be a good fit for color analyst for the NBA
Posted by suns now deisel powered | February 6, 2008 4:47 PM
Wish he'd stop doing Net games, the Bird man is so much better...Marv is so overated its not funny
Posted by Matt | February 6, 2008 4:48 PM
Marv Albert is my favorite basketball acconucer of alltime. In college, I even wrote an essay about him becasue I love his voice so much. He's got the softest voice in the American BROASCASTING period. I olve as an announcer and I'd love to meet him before he retires. Since he's got an extension that gives me more time to meet in the future when I reach my goal to braodcast NBA games and I'D LOVE TO WORK WIOHT HIM AND HAVE him as a broadcasting professora the college that I go to. HE inspired me and a lot of Americans to get into this business. Iam really happy for wiht all my heart.
God bless you Marv!

Gotta love " JORDAN FOR THREE!" "ITS GOOD!"
-Marv is old school, loved NBA ON NBC, he can continue to bring those memories to the game, good choice to sign him.
Posted by NBA Fan | February 6, 2008 4:59 PM
Best NBA annou. of all, "JORDAN..YESSSSS", that YESS never gets old, Inside the NBA best basketball show of all, Charles, Kenny And even Ernie are hilarious and nothing better than to hear about basketball from hall of famers like Charles, Magic, and great players like Kenny.

Mas maayo kung si Marvs Albert ang mag Commentator sa NBA games kay siya ang gigamit sa NBA Live Game sa EA Sports...

BRING OUT THE SALAMI N' CHEESE MAMA...DIS BALL GAME IS OVER!
Posted by SALAMI N' CHEESE | February 6, 2008 6:41 PM
great move tnt, now please allow marv to call the nba finals for abc. tnt will be off the air after the conference finals so he wouldn't be competing with tnt during the finals. it is a travesty that the best tv play by play announcer in the history of the nba will not be calling the nba finals. no knock on mike breen -- he's good -- but even he would admit that he's no marv. keep breen for the regular season/playoffs on espn/abc but let marv call the nba finals. he already has chemistry with mark jackson since he calls new jersey nets games with him.
make it happen tnt/abc. nba fans would be thrilled.
Posted by jim | February 6, 2008 6:57 PM
I actually love Barkley. If it wasn't for him or my team playing, I probably wouldn't tune into TNT. Even if I don't watch the TNT games, I usually tune in just to see what Sir Charles has to say. I appreciate his candidness. I know his producers must freak out about half the stuff he says, but he calls it like it is, and I appreciate that.
Now Bill Walton, that's another thing. I have muted games before to avoid hearing his senseless jabbering.
Posted by Keith | February 6, 2008 8:04 PM
Hmm I like Marv, love how he rips on the Czar, loved his reparte with Jeff Van Gundy- Marv's just got a natural dry wit and never shrinks from giving the other announcers a hard time, all for the entertainment value- he creates chemistry- but I also like Bill Walton- and I agree with the person who mentioned the Warriors- Jim Barnett is awesome because he's so impartial- but then I love Tommy with the Celtics broadcasts in part because he's so biased!
Posted by bbcarter | February 6, 2008 8:44 PM
Excellent move. Marv Albert is a great anouncer. I wonder why TNT or NBA TV is not going after Hanna Storm. I still remember from the nineties the work she did as a NBA on NBC commentator.
Posted by Minnesotan! | February 6, 2008 8:59 PM

Marv Albert is synonomis with NBA basketball...from the NBA on NBC to the present time, people want to tend to focus on what was put out in terms of what he did, but thats not what this is about.
I say congrats marv and i look forward to listening to your YESSSSSSSSSSSSS ...and it counts!!! for years to come, your a legend and ive listened to you broadcast games since i was 11, by far one of the best commentators the game has seen and you are well deserving of your new deal. Wish you could do the finals on ABC. And dont sweat the negative comments you have gotten, the real Marv Albert fans appreciate your talent, wit and proffessionalism at what you do best. "He seems to be shaken up a bit..Yesssssssss"
Posted by Ivron Mayfield | February 7, 2008 2:08 AM
I like Marv it was wise for a alltimer as he is, but i miss his old partners those good old nba on nbc days voices, the passion it had the game like bill walton when he says,COME ON,JUST DUNK THE BALL, those lines i miss. And he was like kind of the opposite of the other annoucer, two guys going at each other that was good.
