Women are leading the charge as heavy consumers of network television shows on the Web, digital video recorders, casual gaming and social media sites like MySpace and Facebook.
That’s the finding of a study slated to be released tomorrow by Solutions Research Group.
The research firm found that more women stream TV shows from network TV sites than men. In the last month, 15% of online women in the U.S. streamed TV shows online, compared to 11% of online men.
Also, moms with children under the age of 6 were among the heaviest users of online TV streaming, with 19% of that group watching a network show online.
Men are still 1.5 to 2 times more likely to download a movie or TV show online.
The study also found that women use their DVRs 9.3 times per week, compared to 8.3 times per week for men. Moms with DVRs time-shifted their TV 56% of the time.
Also, 70% of women played a computer game in the last month, compared with 69% percent of men. Men still lead in console gaming, although the gap is narrowing. The study found that 38% of women played a console game in the last month, versus 35% from a year ago.
Finally, 42% of online women visited a social networking site in the last month, compared with 30% a year ago.
