NBC Universal Sports & Olympics has promoted Wendy Bass to vice president of business affairs.
In her new role she will negotiate TV rights agreements for several sporting events, including the PGA Tour, the Kentucky Derby and Wimbledon, in addition to managing contracts with NBC Sports & Olympics on-air personalities.
“[Ms. Bass] is a valued member of the NBC Sports & Olympics team,” NBC Sports President Ken Schanzer said. “Her hard work and legal experience has helped NBC Sports & Olympics negotiate some of our most powerful properties’ television rights deals.”
Ms. Bass joined NBC Sports & Olympics in 2005 as director of business affairs. Before joining the company, she was an associate at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel. Before her career in law, Ms Bass was an account executive for the NBA’s marketing partnerships division.

Regarding the pronunciation of Beijing by NBC telecasters, I am curious as to how NBC came up with BAY ZHING as the pronunciation for Beijing. Reporters journalists and commentators assigned to east Asia and China never vary from saying BAY JING as do most all news anchors. Chinese Americans would never say BAY ZHING, nor does the Pinyin phonetic system suggest anything but BAY JING. Politics aside, I would think that the Olympic host city would deserve to have its name pronounced correctly by the official OLympic television network.
Your comments would be appreciated.
