‘At the Movies’ Reveals New Hosts, Segments
Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz will take over as co-hosts of “At the Movies” when the syndicated review show’s 23rd season premieres the weekend of Sept. 6.
Richard Roeper and Roger Ebert, longtime co-hosts, stepped down Monday.
Lyons, E! Entertainment’s film expert, has interviewed actors and reported from film festivals for “E! News” and “The Daily Ten,” in addition to his blog and the original broadband series “The Lyons Den” on E! Online.
Mankiewicz has been a host for Turner Classic Movies for five years. He also hosts “The Young Turks” on Sirius Satellite Radio.
“At the Movies” will introduce several new segments while keeping the “cross-talk” reviews. “Critics Round-Up” will feature the co-hosts in discussion with other critics via satellite, while “3 to See” reveals the co-hosts’ “must-see” film picks for the weekend. “Critics Round-Up” will be incorporated into the show’s Web site, which will unveil new online-exclusive features in the coming months.
A new set, new music and new graphics will accompany the September debut.
Additionally, Buena Vista Productions has promoted David Plummer to executive producer of “At the Movies.”
“Over the years, ‘At the Movies’ has become synonymous with fun, compelling movie reviews. With the addition of Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz as our talented, charismatic new co-hosts, and exciting new segments planned, we’re confident that audiences will be enjoying ‘At the Movies’ for many years to come,” Brian Frons, president of daytime for Disney-ABC Television Group, said in a statement.
