CW’s Morningstar Headed to MLB Net

Bill Morningstar, head of ad sales for The CW Network, is leaving to take a similar position with the new MLB Network being set up by Major League Baseball, according to a source who had been briefed on the matter.

Mr. Morningstar’s contract is up with The CW and associates describe him as a die-hard baseball fan. Mr. Morningstar was head of ad sales for The WB before it was shut down and replaced by The CW, which is owned by CBS and Time Warner.

Former CBS executive Tony Petitti is running the baseball network.

The MLB Network has formed partnerships with DirecTV and many of the largest cable operators and is expected to launch with a record 50 million subscribers in January.

The CW had no comment on Mr. Morningstar’s departure or when a replacement would be named.

The move was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
