Keitel Heads to 'Mars'
Mr. White is going to “Mars.”
Harvey Keitel will join the cast of ABC's "Life on Mars," and will start shooting in and around New York City on Aug. 5. Mr. Keitel will play Detective Gene Hunt, head of the homicide department.
The actor shot to fame in movie roles that included Mr. White in “Reservoir Dogs.” His other movie credits include "Bugsy," for which he received an Oscar nomination, “National Treasure,” “The Piano,” “Pulp Fiction” and “From Dusk Till Dawn.” He is represented by ICM.
Mr. Keitel joins previously announced cast members Jason O'Mara as Detective Sam Tyler, Michael Imperioli as Detective Ray Carling and Jonathan Murphy as Detective Chris Skelton.
Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg are executive producers of the prime-time series, which is based on a British series. “Life on Mars” is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios.

Nothing will beat the Brit original, I don't care who stars in the remake.

Excellent substitution, IMO, for Colm Meaney, who played the role in the pilot. But even more egregious is Sam Tyler's character. He's supposed to be an out-of-sync, likable, non-cop-like bloke, when the actor they selected is a hunky cop type right out of central casting. When a suspect being interviewed says, you're not like the other cops, you wonder what the heck they're talking about.

Surely Marvin's post herein is a gag? Everyone knows the show's prem, ise is about a present-day cop who gets time-shifted back to the 70s. The title Life on Mars is a metaphor, it refers to someone finding themselves in a world with which they are unfamiliar. This is similar to the title of the old soap Another World, the mottof of which was: We do not live in this world alone, but in many other worlds (from others' viewpoints, that is...we live in their worlds as well as our own)
That said, I think the idea of a penal colony on another planet struggling to becomne a viable society on its own-and becoming a major power to challenge Earth in the future-wopuld make a great series.
On another point, we are getting another X-Files type show this year-Fringe. Dollhouse has similar elements too, I believe.
Marvin, I too am from Da Bronx-loved the way you expressed your Bronxness! Go Yankees! :)

I feel that Life On Mars is one terrific show. This year it's really coming into its own. I hope the network keeps it going. All the characters I enjoy very much. People might be watching Lost but they are also taping Life On Mars. I personally gave up on Lost after the first year. Life On Mars needs to stay on as a weekly show.
