Lifetime will play tribute to Estelle Getty with a “Golden Girls” marathon on July 25 from 12-5 p.m. Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo on the comedy series, died today at her home in Los Angeles. She was 84.
The 10 episodes airing on Lifetime will be Sophia-centric and will start with the longrunning series’ pilot.
The last episode to air, at 4:30 p.m., will be the No. 1 “Sophia episode” as voted on by fans at myLifetime.com.

I sure hope that Estelle Getty knew how much pleasure she, and the other cast, gave to millions of viewers for so many years. I have watched every show so many times, and yet I never tire of them. I am 66, about the age the girls were toward the end of their run. I admire all the actresses, but Estelle was a favorite. I also enjoy Betty White and especially admire the way she keeps on working. I have no idea how to contact the stars I see on television. Obviously some folks know, but I am not one of them.
Estelle will be missed by many.

This is a fitting tribute to such a special character, and great actress. I do wish, and would have expected, that the marathon could have included more episodes. And, I sure wish I could be home to watch them. I love watching Golden Girls on Lifetime, and was upset when it lost airtime to such shows as Frasier and Will and Grace. Estelle Getty will be missed by all. Her contribution to popular culture is unsurmountable. Who will ever forget her onscreen antics? With such sayings as "Your life is a sports page," "I'm old, I'm supposed to be colorful," and "The man's a scuzzball," she etched her way into our hearts, and caused much-needed laughter. She was a beautiful lady, and I am saddened to have to say goodbye forever. Bye Estelle. We'll miss you. (And, say hello to Sal for us)

Oh man 12-5? Most people I know, including myself, don't get done with work until 5. =( oh well, I'm glad they're doing it!

The world has lost it's first Golden Girl. Estelle died 3 days before her 85th birthday. She wasn't even 5 feet tall, but she stole every scene she was in with her colorful remarks saying whatever she wanted, "How do I know what I'm saying? I had a stroke!" She received an Emmy nomination every year of the show's run starting in 1986 and ending in 1992. She won the award in 1988 (all 4 stars won the award sometime during the show's run). This funny lady will be missed, but I know she's some where nice, like Florida. I don't know if you saw the other 3 Girls on the TV Land Awards, but the rest of the group's not looking so good (especially Rue) so pray for these ladies. Their reruns are still making me laugh and I need a reunion show before they're all gone. Perhaps Sophia's death would be a good plot point? Anyways, if you took the time to read this, thanks for being a friend.
We love you Estelle and we will miss you.

We're having a celebration of Estelle and the Golden Girls tonight with cheesecake on the lanai. We'll miss the marathon, but thank goodness for DVDs. The Girls will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Estelle Getty was the woman. It's great that there will be a tribute in her name. So Ms. Sophia Petrillo here is a cheesecake in your name.

Getty admitted in an interview once she was a zionist who despised the United States and hated playing an Itlian.

The Golden Girls is probably the funniest show on TV and I never tire of watching their wit, seriousness and charm.
It was a wonderful show and I have all 4 series on CD so I can enjoy anytime.
Estelle is like we would all like to be - say whatever you want whenever you want never minding what people think. She was GREAT and her talent will surely be missed.

As a HUGE fan of the Golden Girls, Sophia/Estelle Getty, I think they should play a week of Golden Girls episodes in honor. I LOVE the GIRLS!

I love the ladies. Lifetime should have more Golden Girls on instead of other shows. They are all very funny and charming. Sophia is a grandma that I don't have. I think like others that they should play a week of Golden Girls episodes in honor of Estelle Getty. They should have more G.G. play during the evening time instead of 1am. We loved you and you will be missed Sophia.
