Nearly 2 Million Greet Return of AMC’s ‘Mad Men’

The season-two premiere of “Mad Men” drew nearly 2 million viewers Sunday night, up from an average of 915,000 for its 13-episode first season, the network said citing fast national figures from Nielsen Media Research.

The series, which has been showered with awards—including the Golden Globe for best drama—and received a barrage of press attention, scored a 1.6 household rating, which was up 76% from the network’s prime-time rating so far this year.

AMC, which has been creating cinematic original programming to accompany its movie lineup, said it has been building audiences in key demographic groups. Among adults 25-54, for examples, the season-one premiere of “Mad Men” drew 731,000 viewers last year. The debut of AMC’s second original series, “Breaking Bad,” drew 796,000 viewers in the demo. And the season-two start of “Mad Men” had 996,000 viewers in the demo, the network said.
