ABC Brings Back 'Wipeout' for 2nd Season

ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson has made good on his promise to renew summer hit “Wipeout” for a second season.

“I think there’s no question it’s going to go forward,” Mr. McPherson said last month during the TV Critics Association press tour. He added he had begun talking to producer Endemol USA about ordering another batch of episodes.

On Wednesday, ABC did just that.

ABC ordered 16 episodes of the show, up from this summer's 11.

Although he would not say when the show would begin its second season, Mr. McPherson said in July that he wanted to turn “Wipeout” into a summer tentpole rather than air the show in-season.

Summer-to-date, original episodes of “Wipeout” have averaged a 3.8/12 in adults 18-49, bringing in 10.2 million viewers. It has dominated its 8 p.m. Tuesday time slot and ranks behind only “America’s Got Talent” and “Hell’s Kitchen” among all summer series.

More impressively, among adults 18-49, “Wipeout” is the highest-rated new summer show on any network in three years.

“Wipeout” is produced by Endemol USA.
