Discovery Trades as Public Company

Discovery Communications Wednesday morning began trading as a publicly owned company.

Founder and Chairman John Hendricks and President and CEO David Zaslav rang the opening bell for NASDAQ trading to commemorate the occasion. Also on hand were performers from the company’s networks including Bindi and Terri Erwin, Emeril Lagasse, Stacy London, Clinton Kelly, and captains from some of the crab boats featured on “Deadliest Catch.”

The company now also has a new logo and a new corporate Web site, which features information for investors and other facts about the company.

On Wednesday, the company’s former owners, John Malone’s Discovery Holding Co. and Advance/Newhouse Communications, completed a deal to combine their interests into the new public company. They remain major shareholders in the new concern.
