A return of Lance Armstrong to the Tour de France could pump up Versus, which carries the famed bicycle race.
Mr. Armstrong, 37, who retired from competition after winning his seventh straight Tour de France in 2005, reportedly is making a comeback next year, according to a report in VeloNews cited by ESPN. According to VeloNews, Mr. Armstrong’s comeback will be discussed in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair.
Having Mr. Armstrong back in the saddle would be good news for Versus. During his last race, live morning coverage drew a 0.8 rating and 607,251 viewers. This year’s race, marred by doping suspensions, averaged a 0.3 rating and 267,722 viewers.
Versus officials declined to comment until there’s official word that Mr. Armstrong is coming back.
In August, Armstrong finished second in the Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado, his first major bike event since his retirement in 2005. He’s also run marathons in New York and Boston.
