Economy Forces Nielsen to Cancel 2009 Client Meeting

Nielsen has canceled its annual client meeting for 2009 due to economic concerns, MediaPost’s Media Daily News reports.

Nielsen’s announcement suggests its concerns are not about its own financial state, but that of its clients.

“Due to the current economic environment, a very significant number of our clients have already informed us that they would be unable to attend,” Sara Erichson, executive VP of media client services, wrote in an announcement sent to clients this afternoon. “Based on that input, we determined that holding the meeting as planned was not the right decision.”

Nielsen will use “other vehicles,” such as regional meetings and “online meeting capabilities,” in lieu of the annual client meeting, the article says.

Nielsen has been investing in and cutting services recently.

On Nov. 18, Nielsen announced that it will launch a radio audience measurement service after canceling its new out-of-home television audience measurement service with IMMI on Nov. 9.
