Why: Since stepping into the top sales spot at SPT nearly a year ago, Ms. Carney is in charge of selling commercial inventory for all first-run and off-network SPT programs, including “Seinfeld” and “The King of Queens,” along with other Sony properties such as the Tennis Channel and online video site Crackle. Crackle, formerly Grouper and rebranded in July 2007, moved away from the user-generated video arena toward more professional fare, giving Ms. Carney the ability to sell advertising on fully produced material and allowing for pre-roll and interstitial ads. Having big-name properties such as “Seinfeld,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” has allowed Ms. Carney to offer advertising integration, including “DVR-proof” 10-second spots as well as themed shows featuring advertisers.
On the horizon is SPT’s “Dr. Oz,” starring frequent “Oprah” contributor Dr. Mehmet Oz, which is shaping up to be the most anticipated first-run strip of next fall’s syndication season. Ms. Carney said she already has clients calling her about “Dr. Oz.” However, she said she’s most proud of helping younger people in her division move toward their career goals.
What: Ms. Carney said her favorite movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” “I still cry when they bring all that cash into [Jimmy Stewart’s] house,” she said. On the television side, Ms. Carney says she loves “Seinfeld” as well as “Criminal Minds.”
