Fuel Teams With Dish; Pulls in Emmy Noms With ‘FiNS’

Fuel TV, the News Corp. cable channel specializing in action sports such as surfing, struck a deal with the Dish satellite TV service that expands the network’s distribution to almost 30 million U.S. homes. The channel also announced it had received two Emmy nominations for “FiNS,” from Opper Sports Productions.

The satellite TV deal will put Fuel on Dish’s Classic Gold 250 programming package, according to a statement released by the companies.

“Fuel TV is one of our fastest-growing networks, and adding it to the Dish network lineup helps satisfy the demand from a rapidly increasing number of passionate viewers,” Mike Hopkins, president of affiliate sales and marketing for Fox Cable Networks, said in the statement.

Fuel’s programming covers the gamut of action sports, including skateboarding, wakeboarding, motocross and snowboarding.

The Emmy nominations from the Pacific Southwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for “FiNS” honor Fuel’s surf-show lineup, which includes shows like “On Surfari” and “Drive Thru: Australia.”

Opper Sports Productions is run by six-time Emmy Award winner Ira Opper, whose ventures include www.TheSurfNetwork.com, an online video download service featuring action sports and fitness content. “FiNS” episodes on female surfers in Australia and a showcase of the world’s best surfers drew the two Emmy nominations.

“For us it’s all about the process of creating the series, and to have our peers recognize it is added value for all our efforts,” Mr. Opper said. “Fuel is part of the team.”
