Health in the Headlines

A significant number of breaking stories so far in 2011 have been about health and medical developments. TV viewers and newspaper readers have been bombarded by dramatic pictures and accounts of health implications of news stories around the world, from the Japan and New Zealand earthquakes and the subsequent tsunami that struck Japan, the flooding that hit Australia; updates on the dramatic recovery of an Arizona congresswoman; and the ongoing discussion about health care reform to almost daily developments in combating debilitating illnesses.

Challenges facing the journalists who cover these topics will be explored at the 2011 conference of the Association of Health Care Journalists, being held in Philadelphia April 14 to 17.
