BAFTA Emmy Party

What: The British Academy of Film & Television Arts/Los Angeles and the Television Academy’s fifth annual pre-Emmy tea party
Where: The historic Wattles Mansion in Hollywood
When: Saturday, Sept. 15
Entertainment: In addition to a classical string trio serenading the guests, and a psychic (perhaps predicting their chances of Emmy success), there was a charity teapot auction, offering teapots decorated by stars of several Emmy-nominated shows; the “Ugly Betty” teapot came with a miniature Guadalajara poncho. Guests also could sample a Dove chocolate tasting bar or have various scents mixed for them by representatives of London’s Jo Malone.
Décor: The terraced garden of the Wattles mansion and its tented lawn offered warm and cool respites from the woody interior of the historic house. Various food and drink stations decorated the many levels both inside and out.
Food and Drink: British fare such as fish and chips, Scotch eggs, sausage rolls and, of course, tea were the snacks of the day. However, there was a faux pas with the tea, which, as any proper Brit would know, should have been served already brewed. Instead, there were tea bags on offer, and the water was not hot enough. For non-tea drinkers, champagne flowed freely, as did various Grey Goose vodka drinks.
Highlights: The informal event drew a number of American and British TV stars. Among those checking out the teapots were Holland Taylor and Conchata Ferrell from “Two and a Half Men,” Madeline Zima and Evan Handler from “Californication,” Marianne Jean-Baptiste from “Without a Trace,” Fionnula Flanagan from “Lost,” Grant Show from upcoming midseason replacement “Swingtown,” Jorja Fox from “CSI,” Jimmy Jean-Louis from “Heroes,” Ashley Jensen from “Extras,” Leslie David Baker and Phyllis Smith from “The Office” and Lennie James from “Jericho.” Mr. James said the cast of “Jericho” was about a month away from wrapping the shoot of the embattled CBS series’ seven-episode order, but said he didn’t have any idea when the show would air.
