DirecTV Group and Liberty Media’s Liberty Entertainment will merge as expected, the Hollywood Reporter says. Liberty Media already owns a large share of DirecTV and was planning to split off Liberty Entertainment, with the merger scheduled to take place after that occurs, the trade publication says. Under the merger, DirecTV will combine with Liberty’s Game Show Network, FUN Technologies and some regional sports networks, while Liberty’s Starz Entertainment, WildBlue, PicksPal and Fanball will be spun off into the Liberty Starz banner, the Reporter adds. DirecTV president-CEO Chase Carey will run the combined company and keep his titles.
