If It’s Monday, It Must Be CBS TV Studios

With little fanfare, CBS Corp. has decided to change the name of its domestic and international production units.
CBS Paramount Network Television is now simply CBS Television Studios. And the Eye’s international unit now goes by the moniker CBS Studios International (or CSI, if you’re feeling cheeky).
The change first surfaced last week, when Daily Variety reported the studio’s new overall deal with “Numb3rs” producer Ken Sanzel. CBS Television Studios didn’t put out a release on the makeover.
So why the change?

Simple: When CBS and Viacom split into two different companies, Viacom-owned Paramount gave its former sibling the right to use the storied Paramount label … for three years. And those three years are up (it’s actually been 3 1/2 years, but who’s counting?).
CBS had previously shed the Paramount label from its syndication unit, CBS Television Distribution.
And for those playing along at home, 20th Century Fox TV and Sony Pictures Television are the only big studios not to change their names every couple of years or so. NBC thinks of a new name for its studio every other year (NBC Studios, NBC Universal Television Studios, Universal Media Studios), while Disney likes to shake things up, too (Touchstone, ABC Television Studio, ABC Studios, Steve McPherson’s Joint).

  1. You know, Warner Bros. Television has been Warner Bros. Television for well over 55 years and counting.
