Linda McMahon, the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, has resigned to challenge Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd, whose seat is up for grabs next year, the Associated Press reports.

Dodd is a Democrat who will be seeking his sixth term. McMahon will run on the Republican ticket and will face at least three other major Republican candidates.

"I never do anything half-heartedly," McMahon said in a telephone interview Wednesday with the Associated Press. "I am 100 percent serious about this race."

The AP also said, "McMahon’s candidacy recalls the move brash Jesse Ventura made back in 1999, jumping from pro wrestling to the Minnesota governorship."

McMahon, along with husband Vince McMahon, co-founded the WWE. Mr. McMahon will take on his wife’s CEO duties while she runs for office. Vince McMahon is also chairman of WWE.
