A new competitor to “American Idol” and the upcoming “The X Factor” is waiting in the wings, and the team behind it includes some of the heavy hitters of reality television, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is NBC’s “The Voice of America,” which the network is fast-tracking after getting the rights to the Dutch format.

There’s talk that the new show, whose format is not far from that of “American Idol,” could go head-to-head with the Fox hit.

Mark Burnett and John de Mol are on board, with an aggressive timetable that has the show lined up for a spring 2011 debut–ahead of “X Factor’s” scheduled fall 2011 premiere.

Burnett has had a hand in a series of major U.S. reality shows, including “Survivor,” “The Apprentice” and “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” De Mol’s Endemol production company was behind “Big Brother” and “Fear Factor.”

De Mol is also credited with creating “The Voice of Holland,” the template for the new NBC show.

Casting is reportedly already under way, with Mark Burnett Productions in charge of creating the show. Warner Horizon, the company behind “The Bachelor,” is also involved.
