When Fox’s “American Idol” premieres its 10th season Jan. 19, one of the changes will be its new music director, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

TV music show veteran Ray Chew will take over the seat vacated by Rickey Minor, who left “Idol” to lead the band for NBC’s “Tonight” show.

Chew has worked on NBC’s “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and “The Singing Bee,” and headed up the music for President Obama’s inaugural ball, which featured Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Beyonce, the story reports.

Chew has also worked with Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight and Alicia Keys, among many others.
