As expected, the return of NBA superstar LeBron James to Cleveland in a Miami Heat uniform was a big ratings draw for TNT, which earned its second-highest NBA overnight of the season, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.
The game drew a 4.2 household rating, according to figures reported by the cable network, with 7.1 million total viewers and 4.9 million households. The top-rated NBA game on TNT thus far this year was the Miami Heat vs. the Boston Celtics in the season opener.
In Thursday’s game James led the way with 38 points as his new Miami team easily beat his old Cavaliers team, 118-90.
TNT reported that its NBA ratings for the season to date are up significantly from last season, with increases of 38% in household rating, 45% in total viewers and 41% to 51% in several key demos.
