Pianist Billy Taylor, Longtime CBS Contributor and Jazz Educator, Dead at 89

Billy Taylor, an accomplished jazz artist, pianist, composer and Emmy-winning music reporter for CBS, died Tuesday at the age of 89, the AP reported. Taylor was at home in New York City when he suffered a heart attack.

Taylor was a prolific artist and worked with music greats including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and many others. He was a steadfast promoter of jazz as a performer, educator and broadcaster.

For many years on “CBS News Sunday Morning," he profiled musicians he admired, and in 1983 he won an Emmy for a piece he created on Quincy Jones, the story reports.
