Report: TV Networks Have Failed to Improve Latino Diversity, Both in Front of the Camera and Behind It. ‘This was a terrible year for Latinos at the networks,’ Says Alex Nogales, Who Runs the National Hispanic Media Coalition

A coalition of Latino groups are charging four major TV networks with failing to improve diversity both in front of and behind the camera, reports the Los Angeles Times’ ShowTracker blog.

"This was a terrible year for Latinos at the networks," the article quotes Alex Nogales, who runs the National Hispanic Media Coalition, as saying.

The coalition, which issued a "report card" on multiculturalism, said that ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox have bumped up the inclusion of African Americans and Asian Americans, although Latino diversity is on the wane.

Overall, CBS received the highest grade (B+), while Fox was given the lowest (C+), with both ABC and NBC receiving B-, the story notes.

Nogales said that he may consider charging the networks with racism or bigotry if progress isn’t shown next year, the article notes.

  1. I guess it’s not enough that many of the top-rated shows in prime time are on the Spanish-language channels.

  2. “Nogales said that he may consider charging the networks with racism or bigotry if progress isn’t shown next year.”
So, in other words, “you meet our unsolicited racial quotas, or we’ll smear you.” CLASSY!

  3. So, when can we expect to see more Caucasians, African Americans and Asian Americans on Univision and Telemundo?

  4. I would like to start my own blog one day. This was a really nice blog that you made here. Keep up the success 😛

  5. I agree with your thoughts here and I really love your blog! I’ve bookmarked it so that I can come back & read more in the future.
