Google’s YouTube is in talks to buy a video production company, The New York Times reports.
The company YouTube is targeting is Next New Networks, a web video production house, the article says.
The proposed price wasn’t disclosed and the companies haven’t yet signed an agreement, the story notes. The discussions come as Google is increasingly trying to convince consumers to watch YouTube on their televisions and through its Google TV software, the article points out.
That’s leading to an emphasis on providing professional content and attracting advertisers to YouTube’s offerings. New York-based Next New Networks was founded in 2007 and has created two of YouTube’s most-watched videos in 2010, the article notes. Both are embedded below.
The first is the now famous Bed Intruder Song, based on video taken for a newscast. This video now has more than 51 million hits.
The second one is a parody of the singer Kesha called “Glitter Puke.” It’s also a viral phenom, with more than 53 million hits.
