Last week the star of "How I Met Your Mother," Neil Patrick Harris, lashed out at soap star Eric Braeden for backing out of a guest role on the sitcom, calling him a d-bag on Twitter. Now Braeden has responded with an explanation and called Harris a "whippersnapper," reports New York Magazine.
According to Braeden, his reason for passing on the cameo guest role–which would have been a reprise for him since he originated the role of Robin’s father–was that he has been recovering from hip surgery and the effort to appear for so small a part wasn’t worth it.
Braeden said of being called a “d-bag”: "His choice of words bothered me. It seems to me like a young whippersnapper, having seen himself on a few covers, who’s received a few awards, is now suddenly suffering from the first signs of hubris. I’ve been in the business for 50 years. I’ve seen people come and go and I’m still here. … If he is a worthy adversary, he’d better not cross my path."
Harris reportedly had a change of heart soon after sending the angry tweet, and tweeted that he felt bad about the d-bag comment. "Don’t know the guy personally,” he wrote. “I’m just fiercely protective of our show.”
