Syfy Cancels One of Its Signature Series

Dec 16, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Syfy has canceled one of its signature series that has been on the channel–in some form–since 2002, Deadline.com reports.

The umbrella franchise is "Stargate," the current iteration being "Stargate Universe."

According to the article, "The upcoming 10 episodes of "Stargate Universe’s" second season, which will air in the Spring, will be the series’ last. The news follows the recent cancellation of another franchise Syfy series, the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ prequel ‘Caprica.’ "

  1. I never got to excited about Stargate SG-1 (although I did like the original movie) for its many seasons and never really watched it. Stargate Atlantis was fairly decent and I watched it quite a bit.
When Stargate Universe came on, it looked even more interesting, and I have been using the DVR to catch every episode. I wouldn’t miss an episode of it now.
It is sad that SyFy finally has a Stargate TV fan, after all of these years, and now they are ditching the series.
Stargate Universe will be missed even though it has barely begun!

  2. Not unexpected. After all, it’s not the Sci-Fi channel any more. Ghosts, werewolves, vampires, horror movies, and the WWE. They’re not even pretending to be interested in Sci-Fi any more. Just whatever will generate a paycheck. Backbone or Vision not required. Somebody give Josh Whedon the channel, please.

  3. Never, never, NEVER become attached to any good program shown on Syfy (stupid name; they’ll always be Skiffy to me.) They’ll only tear your heart out in the end. I stopped watching anything on that channel when they cancelled Farscape and haven’t regretted the decision once. I’ll stick to channels that don’t insult my intelligence with $20-budget movies filmed in the director’s parents’ backyard and an endless string of programs that have nothing whatsoever to do with science fiction. The executives at Syfy haven’t had more than a passing acquaintance with quality or respect for fans for more than ten years. A Whedon Channel would be awesome but I’ll settle for anything that respects the kind of programming they claim to be in existence to present.

  6. Well, since this show was not remotely original, I’m not surprised that it was canceled. It was basically Stargate: Voyager. OMG! Something sent us across the universe/galaxy and we have to make it back home somehow. Same premise, different cast, different means of getting home.
I loved the other two shows. This one was sub-par. No surprise to me.
