Which Channels Are Considered ‘Must-Have’ Before Viewers Would Be Willing to Cut Off Cable? Only One Cable News Net Makes the List, While Broadcast Nets Lead the Way; Survey Reveals a Number of Surprises

In a survey by Needham & Company asking which television networks viewers ”must have available online for you to turn off your TV subscription,” only one cable news network cracked the top 20, reports TVNewser.com.

CNN was tied for 12th place in the survey with MTV, CW, PBS, Lifetime and other networks, all of which finished just behind No. 11 TBS. The list was led by CBS, followed closely by ABC, with Fox and NBC tied at No. 3. ESPN, the highest-ranked cable network, rounded out the top five.

The rest of the top 10, in order, consisted of Discovery, History, HBO, Comedy Central and Food Network.

The results of the study bear some relationship to network ratings, but the story points out that in some cases–such as Comedy Central and Food Network cracking the top 10–there are significant differences.
