WSOC-TV, an ABC-affiliated station in Charlotte, North Carolina, had its 5 p.m. newscast forced off the air for almost an hour after a woman walked into the studios and put a gun to her head, reports the Charlotte Observer.
Anchor Natalie Pasquarella twice heard her producer yelling into her earpiece to get off the air, when she said, "We’ll be right back." The station then aired a series of commercials and then the screen went black.
A distraught woman, identified by police as Wendy Cosby Naidas, 51, had entered the studios moments earlier with the gun and said she wanted to talk. The standoff lasted until just before 6 p.m., when police persuaded her to surrender. Officers said her gun wasn’t loaded, and no one was injured at the studio.
The article says that reporters and other staff from the station began using cell phones and laptops to post updates and pictures on Twitter and the station’s Website while they were off the air.
