The post-Civil War Western "Hell on Wheels" received a full season order from AMC, adding to the network’s line-up of genre series, reports the Los Angeles Times’ ShowTracker blog.

The show is about a Confederate soldier who goes west to get revenge for his wife’s death and finds work on the first Transcontinental Railroad, the story says. The soldier will be played by Anson Mount, while rapper Common will play a freed slave looking for a job.

"AMC’s commitment to the western is long standing, and the genre is an important part of our brand and history as a channel," said AMC senior vice president of original programming and digital content Joel Stillerman in a statement, referring to the movies AMC shows.
