Movie Star Whose Movies Have Made $1.4 Billion (!)–and Who Is Also a Pal of Steve Carell’s–Will Appear in a Four-Episode Arc of ‘The Office’ This Season … So What Does It Mean for the Future of the Show?

A movie star whose box office mojo totals more than $1.4 billion so far will be joining pal Steve Carell in a four-episode arc on NBC’s "The Office," reports EW.com’s InsideTV blog.

Will Ferrell, who starred with Carrel in "Anchorman,"  will appear in the arc, playing a branch manager who is just as incompetent as Carell’s Michael Scott, the story notes.

Three of the episodes will feature Carell and Ferrell together, and one episode will feature Ferrell working with the staff in "The Office" after Carell leaves the show. As previously announced, Carell is leaving the show a few episodes before the season finale, the story says.

“We are proud to continue ‘The Office’‘s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality," said executive producer Paul Lieberstein.

Is Ferrell being groomed to take over for Carell on the show? That’s what some experts are speculating, but nobody’s coming out and saying it … yet.

  1. 15% of that gross was Wedding Crashers in which he had a very brief cameo. He gets credit for that??? He may have been the voice of Megamind last year, but he hasn’t had a live action hit movie since 2006. That’s a long time in Hollywood.

  2. Another 15% of that gross was a cameo in Austin Powers. He’s funny, but hardly box office nirvana. Too many of us remember Land of the Lost.

  3. Let’s see, 10 bombs at $150 million each only leaves the studios 100 million short.

  4. Wow – Will haters. I will give you Land of the Lost, but his last 2 – The Other Guys and Step Brothers were far from bombs.
