One problem facing makers of 3D television sets is competing formats that may confuse shoppers, Bloomberg reports.
LG Electronics said this week at the Consumer Electronics Show that will will offer large sets that require glasses, like those in movie theaters, while Toshiba said this month it plans to sell sets that don’t need glasses, the story points out.
Other manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic, also sell 3D sets that require glasses.
"The dueling formats may complicate efforts by manufacturers and retailers to win over shoppers. In addition to format confusion, 3-D buyers are faced with higher prices, including glasses that can cost $150, and concerns about the availability of shows and movies to watch in three dimensions," according to the article.
