Veteran TV film critic Roger Ebert, whose appearance changed when he underwent treatment for thyroid cancer, plans to reveal his “new face” and his facial prosthesis when his new PBS show, "Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies," premieres this weekend, CNN reports.

Ebert has been seen in public since losing much of his jaw to the disease, but that has been without the silicone prosthesis, which reportedly took two years to make. The device apparently was designed to make him look more like his old self.

Ebert, 68, blogged that the designers of the prosthesis "did a pretty wonderful damn job," according to the CNN report. "I like my new prosthesis and know from observation their work was painstaking and done with love and care," he wrote.

Ebert has been unable to speak using conventional means since the cancer, the story says, and has used a variety of text-to-speech technologies. Along with producing the new show, he will reportedly appear in brief segments on the show.

"I will wear the prosthesis on the new television show," he blogged this week in a post titled "Leading with my chin."

"That’s not to fool anyone, because my appearance is widely known," Ebert wrote. "It will be used in a medium shot of me working in my office, and will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for 64 years."
