A writer-producer of "The Office" has received a script commitment from Fox, reports Deadline.com.

The project, a recession-themed comedy from 20th TV and 21 Laps/Adelstein, was co-created by writer-producer Aaron Shure and actor J.B. Smoove. It would star Smoove as a husband and father who’s divorced but can’t afford to move out of his home, the story notes. Instead, he moves into his family home’s basement, and the show follows his attempt to get his life back, it adds.

Shawn Levy of 21 Laps/Adelstein said the project came about after the April release of "Date Night," in which Smoove played a cab driver whose car gets attached to the vehicle driven by Steve Carell and Tina Fey, and Levy said he received many comments about how funny Smoove was, the story notes.
